Pinotage is the Who’s Who of grapes

Fresh, fruity, and a little spicy, Who’s Who is made from the grape that has us all talking about South Africa: Pinotage. The story of Pinotage brings us to the curiosity of a South African scientist who wanted to see what would happen when they crossed Pinot Noir and Cinsault, a grape from southern France. Grapes mutate in the field all the time, one-night-stand-style, but this crossing was more of an arranged marriage. The result? A grape that has put the Western Cape of South Africa on the map. Who’s Who is a light, crisp red with blackberry, strawberry, cedar, and licorice aromas.

Striking a balance at the Western Cape

The cool, maritime climate of the Western Cape is the perfect place to grow fresh and fruity Pinotage. Here at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, grapes get all the sunshine they need to develop expressive red fruit. The aromas of flowers are carried in the salty breeze, which comes off the ocean just in time to slow down the ripening of eager Pinotage. This is a delicate balance that can only be achieved by nature, and winemakers here know that the best wines are made when we let mother nature lead the way.

Pair Who’s Who with rustic dishes

Who’s Who has tart fruit and spice. This wine is simply dying for smoky meats, smokier cheeses, and rustic-style meals. Have it with smoked gouda mac and cheese, roasted chicken with herbs, baked carrots, and French onion soup.
